The Space Shuttle Atlantis touched down at Kennedy Space Center at 5:57 a.m. EDT, bringing to a successful conclusion NASA's 30-year-old space shuttle program. It was the 135th and final shuttle mission and the 33rd for Atlantis, which since 1985 has spent a total of 307 days in space, orbiting the earth 4,848 times and traveling more than 125 million miles. Thursday's landing was the 25th night landing of the program. Atlantis was crewed by Commander Chris Ferguson, mission specialists Sandra Magnus and Rex Walheim, and pilot Doug Hurley. |
