Jack Gruber Headlines Brooks Speakers Program for September & October

Editor's note: San Francisco Bay Area-based USA TODAY staffer and SportsShooter.com member Jack Gruber will be leading off this term's speakers program at Brooks Institute in Ventura, Calif.
To all: Here are the speakers scheduled to make presentations for the Visual Journalism program this term at Brooks Institute.
These sessions are free (unless otherwise noted) and are open to all interested parties. Please feel free to drop in and visit if you are anywhere near the California central coast. The Ventura campus is only 60-minutes north of Los Angeles.
For the September-October term ONLY JACK GRUBER WILL APPEAR AT THE VENTURA CAMPUS. (See directions below.)
Brian Lawlor and Don Bartletti will appear at Ventura High School in the small theater. (See directions below.)

Covering the USA, Today!

Bay Area-based USA TODAY staff photographer Jack Gruber, will kick off the September-October term. He will show the kinds of assignments he gets to do for a national newspaper. These have included recent war coverage in Iraq, the Olympics, a long picture story on a member of the Inuit people who will be the first of his people play in the National Hockey League. One of Gruber’s favorite sports is buzkashi, the one played with the headless goat!

Renaissance Man: Do it all from a place you love.
Brian Lawlor could answer, “Yes, that’s what I do!” to many job descriptions, including photographer, writer, editor (Ballooning Magazine), graphic designer, teacher, consultant, Hollywood filmmaker, and videographer.
Lawlor will speak about a variety of interesting projects, which include working around aircraft designer Burt Rutan and the world’s most super-sophisticated flying machines.

Honduras to America: Enrique’s search for his mother
Don Bartletti, staff photographer at the Los Angeles Times, has covered border issues for several decades. He recently won the Pulitzer Prize for a story that dominated his life for several months. (Bartlettil proves that photographers CAN win major awards after age 30. And 40.)
Finding the Brooks Institute Ventura Campus - Jack Gruber's presentation will be at the new Brooks Ventura campus. This is located off Highway 33 on the way to Ojai at 5301 No. Ventura Avenue. From Highway 101 take Highway 33 toward Ojai. Take the Canada Larga exit off highway 33. Turn left at the stop sign, then left at the second stop sign. Brooks Ventura campus is the large complex off to the right.
Go into the school and ask for the location of the Screening Room.
The presentation is free and runs from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. All are welcome.
Finding Ventura High School - Brian Lawlor and Don Bartletti's presentations will be in the small theater on the campus of Ventura High. The Ventura High School small theater is located on Poli Street between N. Seaward Ave. and N. Catalina Street in Ventura. There is plenty of street parking and a parking lot nearby on Poli Street.
Southbound travelors: From Highway 101 take the Seaward Ave. exit, turn left on E. Harbor Blvd., turn left on S. Seaward and travel about one mile, turn left on Poli Street.
Northbound travelors: From Highway 101 take the Seaward Ave. exit, turn right onto Seaward and travel about one mile, turn left on Poli Street.
