Brooks Institute announces speakers program for July & August
By Jim McNay, Brooks Institute of Photography

To all: Here are the speakers scheduled to make presentations for the Visual Journalism program this term at Brooks Institute.

These sessions are free (unless otherwise noted) and are open to all interested parties. Please feel free to drop in and visit if you are anywhere near the California central coast. The Ventura campus is only 60-minutes north of Los Angeles.

For the July-August term ALL SPEAKERS WILL APPEAR AT THE VENTURA CAMPUS. (See directions below.)

Visual Journalism Speakers Program - July-August - 2003

Speaker #1 - Wednesday, July 23, 2003

The first Visual Journalism speaker this term will be San Jose Mercury News staff photographer Richard Koci-Hernandez.

Besides being an all-around general assignment photographer Richard pays special attention to the portraits he is asked to make of people in the news. He is known for keeping an "idea book" of light and special approaches he wants to try with his portrait work. A "Richard portrait" is understood --- by readers and photographers --- to be special.

Speaker #2 - Wednesday, August 6, 2003

Winner of the World Press Photo award Eric Grigorian will be the second speaker of the term. He is a Los Angeles-based freelance photographer who has recently returned from Kuwait.

Grigorian graduated from college in photojournalism in 1998. After graduation he freelanced for the Los Angeles Daily News and made several trips to Iran on his own. His winning pictures following a major earthquake in Iran were made while he was on one of his self-financed trips to that country. He is now represented by Polaris Images.

Speaker #3 - Wednesday, August 20, 2003
