Editor's note. Southern California based Sports Illustrated staffer and SportsShooter.com member Peter Read Miller will be anchoring this term's speakers program at Brooks Institute in Ventura, Calif.

To all: Here are the speakers scheduled to make presentations for the Visual Journalism program this term at Brooks Institute.

These sessions are free (unless otherwise noted) and are open to all interested parties. Please feel free to drop in and visit if you are anywhere near the California central coast. We are a mere 90-minutes north of Los Angeles. The Ventura campus is only 60-minutes north of Los Angeles.

For the May-June term - ALL SPEAKERS WILL APPEAR AT THE VENTURA CAMPUS. (See directions below.)

Visual Journalism Speakers Program - May-June - 2003

Speaker #1 - Wednesday, May 14, 2003

The first Visual Journalism speaker this term will be TIME and Hollywood veteran Bruce Talamon.

A title that might suggest Talamon's range of work might be, "Problem-solving with Michael Jordon, Will Smith and Bob Marley ."

Besides covering hard news, Talamon has become a specialist in action photography around Hollywood sets. He works in a no-nonsense world where he must be counted on to get the picture - no excuses!

The presentation is free and runs from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. All are welcome.

Speaker #2 - Wednesday, May 28, 2003

Editor and photographer George Olson is the second speakers of the term.

As director of photography at Sunset magazine, Olson heads a photo department of three picture editors, two staff photographers and a photo intern among others. He has considerable experience in newspapers and magazines, in both the journalism and commercial worlds of photography.

He calls his presentation, "Doing Photography - Being a Photographer."

Olson also was director of photography of the book, "Baseball in America" and has participated in the Day in the Life books of California, China, and Italy among others.

In his life as a photographer, Olson has done work for National Geographic, TIME, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Esquire and commercial clients such as Marlboro Racing, KLM Royal Dutch Airline and Anheuser-Busch.

The presentation is free and runs from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. All are welcome.

Speaker #3 - Wednesday, June 11, 2003

The third speaker of the term will be Sports Illustrated's Peter Read Miller.

Long known as a "go-to guy" when it comes to major sporting events, Miller is particularly known for his ability to get THE picture at a variety of sporting events. He is regularly called on to cover the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, the Olympic Games, the World Series and the Kentucky Derby among others.

Other editorial clients include TIME, Newsweek, LIFE, Playboy, People, and commercial clients such as Coca-Cola, Addidas, Kodak, Visa, and Warner Brothers.

The presentation is free and runs from 6:30 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. All are welcome.
