Peter Read Miller to teach at Denver workshop in May

Sports Illustrated staff photographer and SportsShooter.com member Peter Read Miller is presenting a rare opportunity to study and learn with him and his good friend Grant Leighton at a wonderful workshop in Denver, Colorado in early May.

This is a unique setting to study with one of the best sports shooters in the country in an intimate setting where you won't get lost in the shuffle and are sure to get some quality one-on-one instruction from Peter.

Working With Artists Photographic Workshops presents a photographers' workshop with internationally known Sports Illustrated photographer Peter Read Miller. Also instructing will be Denver's own Grant Leighton.

Sports Illustrated staff photographer Peter Read Miller has worked for the magazine for over 20 years, with more than 85 covers to his credit. In addition to shooting 25 Super Bowls, he has covered 14 NBA Finals, six Olympics, the Stanley Cup Final, the World Series, the Kentucky Derby, the NCAA Final Four, Men's and Women's World Cup Soccer and the World Championship of Freestyle Wrestling in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.

Peter's other editorial clients have included Time, Newsweek, LIFE, Playboy, People, USA Today, Runner's World, Money Magazine, and The New York Times. His commercial clients include Coca-Cola, addidas, Panasonic, Footlocker Stores, Kodak, Warner Brothers, Visa and NFL Properties.

Among the celebrities he has photographed are Rich Gannon, Joe Montana, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, John Wooden, Steve Young, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Jason Kidd, Troy Aikman, Gabirelle Reese, David Robinson, Emmitt Smith, Maurice Greene, Tiger Woods, Bill Walsh, Ken Griffey Jr., John Elway, Karem Abdul-Jabbar, Jerry Rice, Magic Johnson, Marion Jones, Terrell Davis, Mike Ditka, Muhammad Ali, Arnold Palmer, and Kathy Ireland.

Peter has been an instructor at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Rich Clarkson's Sports Photography Workshop in Colorado Springs. Peter has also been a guest speaker at UCLA, San Jose State, the University of Tennessee and The Eastman Kodak Corporate Headquarters in Rochester, NY. Peter lives in Manhattan Beach, California. Workshop topics will include:

* Camera and lens selection
* Angles and positioning for various sports
* Use of remotes
* Exposure for night and indoor events
* The action portrait
* Use of strobes for indoor events
* The business aspects of sports photography
* How Sports Illustrated covers an event
* Covering the Olympics

Mornings will be devoted to slideshows, lecture, discussion and demonstration. In the afternoons students will have the opportunity to photograph various amateur athletes and sporting events in and around the Denver area. Participant work will be reviewed each morning.

ABOUT GRANT LEIGHTON:

Edgy and thought provoking, Grant's work ranges from street photography to studio portraiture. After working intensively at ICP in New York, Grant became committed to fine art photography. On arriving in Colorado, he started working and instructing at Denver Center for Fine Photography, and has continued teaching as well as photographing professionally in Denver for several years. He is now the premier instructor and program advisor for Working with Artists Photographic Workshops. He has been teaching The Fine Portrait, Camera Formats & Lighting, and Defining Personal Vision workshops for WWA since its inception in 2001. Grant has taught photography now for over 6 years, inspiring exceptional student work. He works with Peter Miller regularly and the two have become good friends.
