Steinmetz' work has appeared in TIME, LIFE, GEO and Stern. Lately he has focused on stories involving science and technology.
Currently Steinmetz is involved in a long term project to photograph all of the world's deserts using a small microlight aircraft called a paramotor which he pilots while taking pictures.
On the adventure side of his life, Steinmetz has been arrested for spying in two African countries and had a loa-loa worm extracted from his eye. However he says his greatest adventure has been his daughter and recently-born twin boys.
