The first all California World Series in 13 years got off to a good start on Saturday night as the San Francisco Giants powered their way to a hard-faught 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Angels in Game One at Edison Field in Anaheim. Game 2 was even better on Sunday night as the Angels beat the Giants in an all-time classic 11-10.
Even more importantly, photographers from all over the country have gathered in SoCal to have some fun, smoke cigars (see The Count), enjoy some free media food and beers and tell really funny stories (see Johnny Iacono) late into the evening.
There is nothing quite as fun as getting together with friends that you only get a chance to see at big events like this.
It's a good thing everyne had a good time before and after the game because there wasn't much good action taking place on the field, with the exception of guys hitting the ball over the fence.
One of the coolest things about this year's Series is getting the chance to see long time Angels club photographer V.J. Lovero (20 years) photograph his team in the Fall Classic for Sports Illustrated. V.J. is joined by other long-time Angels (Lovero Group) shooters Deb Robinson, Bob Binder and John Cordes.
Over in the other dugout is 13-year Giants team photographer Martha Jane Stanton and her partner Andy Kuno. There is no truth to the rumor that Kuno rode his skateboard to Socal down I-5...he took the team charter!
SportsShooter.com members who are working the Series include: Rich Pilling, Ron Vesely, Paul Cunningham, Jeff Haynes, Al Bello, Jed Jacobsohn, Jose Fajardo, Jim Merithew, Johnny Iacono (he paid last night and will be doing a gallery soon), Andy Kuno, Nhat V. Meyer, Bob Deutsch, Robert Hanashiro, David Cooper, Dino Vournas, D. Ross Cameron, Eric Risberg, Jon Soohoo, Keith Birmingham, Kevin Sullivan, Mark J. Terrill, Mike Blake, Robert Beck, Robert Seale and Tom Hauck.
It's gonna be a fun week. To look at a few pictures from Game 1 and Game 2 check out the galleries below from a few of the Major League Baseball Photos shooters.
