It just keeps getting better and better and better! Andy Hayt has been added to the faculty for the upcoming Workshop & Luau 2002.
"When we had the opportunity to have Andy join us for the Workshop & Luau," said Bert Hanashiro, the event's director and program chair, "I just could not resist. I jumped at the chance to add Andy to the program even though the schedule was already jammed packed with great speakers and sessions. We will just make an adjustment here and there to make this all work."
Hayt is a legendary sports and editorial photographer having spent 11 years with Sports Illustrated magazine as a staff photographer and the past 10 seasons shooting for the NBA, NFL and MLB. His work has graced the covers of Sports Illustrated forty-seven times. His work has been featured on the covers of TIME, LIFE, Inside Sports, Sport, TV Guide and numerous other national and international publications. His clients include NBC Sports, Fox TV, ESPN the Magazine and numerous athletic attire manufacturers and sports management agencies.
"I greatly enjoy working with teams, athletes, agents and sports leagues doing portrait and special event photography,' Hayt said, "I have developed a reputation for pulling off difficult portrait shoots in extreme conditions in a small time frame. I will talk about how to work with people and how to get the job done, from concept to fruition."
Hayt will lead a session entitled "Working With Athletes and Teams."

Before joining SI in 1980 Andy was a staff photographer with the Arizona Republic and the Los Angeles Times. He left "The Magazine" in 1992 to join the ranks of freelance photographers. Andy has enjoyed an eight year relationship working with the San Diego Padres Baseball Club. He has produced and worked on books, advertising and magazine projects with the ball club.
The past two years he has worked as a consultant helping several companies develop and market their photography divisions.
"Working With Athletes and Teams" joins an outstanding list of speakers and breakout sessions. Also on the program are main speakers Peter Read Miller and Robert Beck from Sports Illustrated and Wally Skalij from the Los Angeles Times.
Breakout sessions include location lighting conducted by The Sporting News' Robert Seale, business practices by Rick Rickman, covering prep sports by Bob Larson of the Contra Costa Times, using remote cameras by the AP's Mark J. Terrill and digital cameras and work flow taught by the Salt Lake Tribune's Trent Nelson and Nikon's Ronal Taniwaki.
Rod Mar of the Seattle Times and Bay Area freelance sports shooter Brad Mangin will lead a discussion "Shooting for Mags/Shooting for Dailies" which will also touch on the basics of sports photography. Freelance

"Having someone of Andy's caliber talk about how you handle and work with these high profile and high salaried players and discuss getting around all of the hassles we have to face these days to make a good photograph is priceless," Hanashiro said.
Hanashiro indicated that over 220 students and working professional photographers have submitted registration forms for the Nov. 1 - 2
Sports Shooter Workshop & Luau 2002. The event is sponsored by Nikon and will be held at the Manhattan Beach Marriott Hotel.
