Los Angeles Times staffer to present "Sports Photography With Meaning and Impact"

Sports Shooter is happy to announce that Wally Skalij of the Los Angeles Times has been confirmed and added to the featured speaker line-up of the upcoming Sports Shooter Workshop & Luau 2002.

"Sports Photography With Meaning and Impact" will be the topic of his presentation.

Wally is the 2002 runner-up Newspaper Photographer of the Year for the University of Missouri's Pictures of the Year. He has also won the Greater Los Angeles Press Photographers Association's Photographer of the Year for the past four years.

Sports Illustrated's Peter Read Miller and Robert Beck have previously been announced as featured speakers for the Workshop & Luau, which will be held Nov. 1-2 in Southern California.

"This is very exciting having a photographer of Wally's caliber join us for the Workshop & Luau," organizer Robert Hanashiro, said. "Wally will have so much to offer everyone who will be attending the workshop."

In addition to the trio of featured speakers, the Workshop & Luau offers several breakout sessions, including location light, shooting prep sports, the business of photography, digital tips and tricks and remotes 101.

Hanashiro also said that over 100 people registered for the Workshop & Luau since the registration site launched a week ago. Last year's event had 65 students attending.

"We are working on a something very exciting for those that are attending, "Hanashiro added. "We hope to make an announcement within a few days and that those who have already pre-registered will be patient in waiting for their confirmation notices.

"We want to accommodate as many people that want to attend and we are leaving registration open for the time being."
