New 'Visions' Book from Allsport
By Robert Hanashiro

"Visions Of Allsport," the second in a series of books featuring the work of photographers from the world's largest sports picture agency was published just before Christmas. The BEAUTIFUL reproduction shows off the talents of the Allsport staff to its fullest and the simple layouts (either double trucks or one image featured on a page) should appeal to both the photographer and sports fan. This is not a book of images concentrating on the usual "Big Three" (baseball, football and basketball); cycling, horse racing, skiing, mountain climbing and Olympic events are the most prominent featured. Highlights include Jed Jacobsohn's World Press winner of Evander Holyfield's chewed ear; Simon Bruty's almost poetic image of a Cuban cyclist crashing at the 1995 Pan Am Games; Gary Pryor'spainful photograph of world record holder Mike Powell (no, not THAT Mike Powell) laying in the long jump pit after injuring himself during the 1996 Summer Olympics and Jamie Squire's emotion-filled image of a leaping Tom Lehman after he sank a birdie putt in the 1997 Ryder Cup. Hardbound; Cover price: $35.00; 166 pages; Universe Publishing.
