What’s The Apps? Sports Shooter members’ iPhone favs Sound Hound

By Robert Hanashiro, Sports Shooter

The cool iPhone apps recommended in this newsletter are useful tools for work, so I thought I’d throw in a fun one I use quite a bit.

Paul McCartney had an album titled “Memory Almost Full” and that’s the way I feel sometimes…

I love music but in my old age occasionally the name of tune coming over the radio or playing on the mall’s loud speakers is familiar but the title is just out of reach in my head. That’s where SoundHound comes in!

Launch SoundHound, tap the “What’s that song” button, the app listens to the song and within 30-40 seconds it and SoundHound tells you the name of the song, the artist, lyrics and what album it’s on. You can also email the info, tap a link to iTunes to download or be taken to related YouTube videos.

The other night I tapped the “What’s that song” button during dinner and SoundHound picked up a song in Spanish playing on the overhead speakers in a noisy Mexican restaurant and in less than 30 second come up with “Se Me Tarde la Vida” by Vincente Fernandez…

How does it do that?
