Terrill Brothers Headline Brooks Speakers Program for September & October 2005

To all: Here are the speakers scheduled to make presentations for the Visual Journalism program this term at Brooks Institute.
Our speakers for each term are also always posted near the bottom of the Brooks student NPPA chapter web page at www.brooksnppa.org.
These sessions are free (unless otherwise noted) and are open to all interested parties. Please feel free to drop in and visit if you are anywhere near the California central coast. The Ventura campus is only 60-minutes north of Los Angeles.
Please read carefully to see at which of several locations these presentations will be made. Many are held off-campus. (See directions below.)
Brooks Institute of Photography Visual Journalism Speakers Program - September - October, 2005
Speaker #1 - Wednesday, September 14, 2005
Holy Cross School Auditorium, 211 E. Main St., (Ventura Mission), Ventura, Calif., 8pm
International Photojournalism: Tsunami Relief, Hunger in Africa
Francine Orr, a Los Angeles Times staff photographer since 1999, frequently works overseas for the newspaper. She did a month long project covering the tsunami in Asia. Prior to that she spent two years covering poverty in Africa. Francine international experience includes several years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Micronesia.

The Brotherhood of Photojournalism
Joey and Mark Terrill are brothers first and then successful photographers. Joey started at the Los Angeles Times and then moved on to do a range of commercial and corporate work. His assignments include architecture, journalism and underwater photography. Mark Terrill is a Los Angeles based Associated Press staff photographer. He is a sports specialist, having won the AP sports editors' best sports portfolio competition two years in a row. Each of the Terrills is known in the industry as being his brother's biggest fan.

Life on the Edge: Television Documentary Filmmaking Around the World
Three-time Emmy winner Dave Banks is an international documentary filmmaker who concentrates on hostile locations such as North Africa and the Middle East. He has worked on major projects such as the Eco-Challenge with 15 crews and multiple aircraft and vehicles. He has snuck into Turkey to do a project on Mt. Ararat and Noah's Arc. His work has appeared on major U.S. and European television networks, including the Discovery Channel, PBS, and the History Channel.
Holy Cross School - at the Ventura Mission - downtown Ventura, 211 E. Main St.
From the north (Santa Barbara) - Take 101 south, exit Main Street. Turn right off off-ramp. The mission is on left past Ventura Ave.
From the south (LA) - Take 101 north, exit at California Street. Turn right on California at end of off-ramp. Go straight through Thompson and turn left at Main Street. The mission is on right about four blocks ahead.
If from Main Street you go to Palm, turn on to Palm toward the small hot dog stand. Then at the first alley, turn left and park on the right hand lot near the Holy Cross School auditorium. The auditorium itself is the large building up the hill on the right.
From Brooks Ventura campus - Take 33 South, take the Main Street exit. Go right off the exit ramp. Go left on Main Street. The mission on left past Ventura Ave.
Poinsettia Pavilion - 3451 Foothill Road, Ventura, Calif.
From the North - From the Santa Barbara area take Highway 101 to the Seaward Avenue exit, turn left on E. Harbor Blvd, turn left on So. Seaward, and travel about one mile. At Poli St (to the left) and Foothill Road (to the right) turn right and follow Foothill Road for approximately one mile. Turn left at 3451 Foothill Road up the hill into the parking lot of the Poinsettia Pavilion.
From the South - From Los Angeles take Highway 101 to the Seaward Ave. exit, turn right on Seaward and travel about one mile. At Poli St. (to the left) and Foothill Road (to the right) turn right and follow Foothill Road for approximately one mile. Turn left at 3451 Foothill Road up the hill into the parking lot of the Poinsettia Pavilion.
