The members have spoken. Donald Miralle of Getty Images is the 2004 SportsShooter.com Photographer of the Year and will receive the much coveted Grand Prize, a Canon 1D Mark II camera.

Miralle's images, all shot during the 2004 calendar year, led him to a sizable victory against his fellow SportsShooter.com members in the site's annual "clip contest".

The SportsShooter.com 'Clip Contest', sponsored by Canon, is a year-long series of monthly contests. Each month, members compete against each other by submitting their best images from the previous month.

The members are not only the competitors, but they're also the judges. Based on member votes, points are awarded each month to the highest scoring images in each of four different categories (Sports Action, Sports Feature, News, and Feature).

At the end of the year, the member with the most points is declared the winner.

Brian Davies of The Register-Guard in Eugene, Oregon, won the title last year - in what was the first-ever year of the contest.

Congratulations to Donald Miralle, and to all of the winners of the 2004 contest.

A quick tour through the winning images of the past year remain on the website, and will serve as an example of how to 'do it right', for years to come.

Thank you to Dave Metz of Canon for his support of this contest. We're thrilled to have Canon's endorsement, and are honored to be able to offer such an incredible camera at year's end.
