Getty Images staff photographer Don Miralle has been added to the faculty of the upcoming Sports Shooter Academy, a hands-on workshop to be held February 16 - 20, 2005 in Southern California.
"I'm very excited to be a part of this," said Miralle after he was asked to join the faculty by Sports Shooter founder Robert Hanashiro.
"Don is a great addition to our group of photographers teaching at Sports Shooter Academy," Hanashiro said. "His eye for light and color and his background as a former athlete is the perfect compliment to this great new sports photography workshop."
After finishing a 15-year All-American competitive swimming career that culminated with UCLA's last Men's Division I Swim Team and a member of the Philippine National Team, Miralle began his career in photography. Miralle received a B.A. in fine arts from UCLA in 1997, later joining the Allsport agency and has had the opportunity to cover events all over the world including Winter and Summer Olympic Games, the Super Bowl, World Series, Stanley Cup Playoffs, NBA Playoffs, World Swimming Championships, Golf Majors, Baja 1000 and Indianapolis 500.
Miralle joins a faculty that includes award-winning photographer Wally Skalij of the Los Angeles Times, freelance sports photographer Matt Brown and Hanashiro, a USA TODAY staff photographer.
Sports Shooter Academy is one of the first workshops to be held in cooperation with an NCAA Division I conference, the Big West which is based in Orange County, California. Participants will be given credentials to Big West events and will cover them along with the Sports Shooter Academy faculty. Critiques and classes on various topics including arena lighting, portraits, picture stories and working with athletes and schools are also part of this workshop.
