Sports Shooter Academy to be held in February of 2005

Sports Shooter will be holding its first-ever hands-on photography workshop in February 2005 in Southern California.

Held in cooperation with the NCAA Division I Big West Conference, Sports Shooter Academy participants will be covering major college events along side top professional photographers, receiving hands-on instruction, on the spot evaluations, tips on portrait and arena lighting, using remote cameras, working with coaches and athletes and making story-telling images.

A very limited number of spots are available and acceptance is by portfolio submission. This workshop, scheduled for Feb. 16 - 20, 2005, is designed primarily for photojournalism students and working professional photojournalists with a maximum of 4 years of experience.

Participants will have the opportunity to photograph Division I men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's volleyball and other events during the workshop. Participants will be divided into small "teams" and will have at least one faculty member assigned to their group. The faculty members will also do some shooting, but most importantly will be available at all times to offer advice and tips before, during and after the games.

The Big West Conference has agreed to provide Sports Shooter Academy with credentials to events, as well as access to athletes and coaches for portraits. Tentative plans are to cover events at Cal State Fullerton, U.C. Irvine and Cal State Long Beach. Fullerton is the defending NCAA Division I baseball champs. Long Beach was the NCAA Division I runner-up in men's volleyball in 2004.

At the end of each day and the following mornings, the Sports Shooter Academy faculty will review, critique and highlight the work of the participants. The faculty and staff of Sports Shooter Academy will also be making educational presentations during the workshop.

The registration fee also includes a brunch on Sunday that will conclude the workshop where the best work will be shown and an award will be given for the best photograph made during the weekend.
