Robert Hanashiro and Marcio Sanchez Headline Brooks Speakers Program for May & June 2004
Two SportsShooter.com members highlight another fantastic term of guest speakers at Brooks

SANTA ANITA JOCKEY ROOM --- ALTADENA, CA: Jockeys wait for their rides in front of the Jockey's Room at Santa Anita Park.
To all: Here are the speakers scheduled to make presentations for the Visual Journalism program this term at Brooks Institute.

Visitors who get near Ventura (60 minutes north of LA) are welcome to drop in and take part.

These sessions are free (unless otherwise noted) and are open to all interested parties. Please feel free to drop in and visit if you are anywhere near the California central coast. The Ventura campus is only 60-minutes north of Los Angeles.

For the May-June, 2004 term, the presentations will be off-campus in the greater Ventura area. Please read carefully. (See directions below.)

Visual Journalism Speakers Program - May-June, 2004

Speaker #1 - Wednesday, May 19, 2004
Ventura High School Little Theater, 2115 E. Main, Ventura - 6:30 pm - 9 pm

Freelancing and the Adventure Photography Game
Scott Wilson is a photo editor for The North Face, an outdoor adventure equipment company. Previously he worked for Patagonia, and attended Brooks Institute. He will speak about good photography and smart self-promotion.

Holy Cross School, Ventura Mission, 211 E. Main St., Ventura, 6:30 pm - 9 pm

Pictures and Projects: From Social Relevance to Hollywood Hotdogs
Robert Hanashiro is one of six staff photographers at USA Today. He regularly covers Hollywood stars, the Oscars, the Olympic Games around his daily and other project work. He will show the range and variety of skills necessary to work for one of this country's few national newspapers.

Speaker #3 - Wednesday, June 16, 2004

Having it all: Photography, Family, Fun in Baghdad by the Bay(SF)
Marcio and Jenifer Sanchez met while studying photojournalism in college. After a series of internships, they eventually both landed jobs on a major daily newspaper. They will share their journey of how they became a husband and wife team, started a family and how Marcio landed a prestigious Associated Staff photographer's job in San Francisco.

Ventura High School Little Theater - 2115 E. Main, Ventura, Calif.

The Little Theater is located on the Ventura High School campus on Poli Street between No. Seward Ave. and No. Catalina Street in Ventura. There is plenty of street parking and a parking lot nearby on Poli Street.

From the North - From the Santa Barbara area take Highway 101 to the Seaward Avenue exit, turn left on E. Harbor Blvd, turn left on So. Seaward, and travel about one mile. Turn left on Poli Street.

From the South - From Los Angeles take Highway 101 to the Seaward Ave. exit, turn right on Seaward and travel about one mile. Turn left on Poli Street.


Holy Cross School - at the Ventura Mission - downtown Ventura, 211 E. Main St.

From the north (Santa Barbara), Take 101 south, exit Main Street. Turn right off off-ramp. The mission is on left past Ventura Ave.

From the south (LA), take 101 north, exit at California Street. Turn right on California at end of off-ramp. Go straight through Thompson and turn left at Main Street. The mission is on right about four blocks ahead

From Brooks Ventura campus, Take 33 South, take the Main Street exit. Go right off the exit ramp. Go left on Main Street. The mission on left past Ventura Ave.

Note: Go to the mission e-a-r-l-y. You will need time to find parking in downtown Ventura.
