Max Morse and 23 other SportsShooter.com members, including many students and instructors like Skip Dickstein, Dave Black, Rick Rickman, Bill Frakes and Joe McNally decended upon Louisville, Kentucky this past weekend for the 2004 Collegiate Sports Journalism Seminar at Churchill Downs.

As Dave Black and Rick Rickman hummed Pomp and Circumstance Sunday morning, 20 students received their certificates of completion at the 13th Annual Collegiate Sports Journalism Seminar at Churchill Downs.

The class, which included 11 SportsShooter.com members, was led by an all-star faculty of Skip Dickstein, Mike Corrado, Dave Black, Rick Rickman, Joe McNally, Bill Frakes and Lucas Gilman (all SportsShooter.com members).

After three days of non-stop shooting, breakouts, and lectures, the students left Kentucky with a newfound appreciation and passion for their craft, and new friendships that will last forever.

SportsShooter.com members Paul Andrews, Chris Bergin, Garrett Cortese, Tracy Boulian, Jeff Bottari, Victor Maccharoli, Mike Cohea, Danny Gawlowski, Ana Zangroniz, Elisha Page, and James Clark had the opportunity to shoot every day on the backside of Churchill Downs as morning workouts took place. They also got to cover the pageantry on opening day (Saturday) as the women came out in their beautiful hats, and the horses ran for the first time this season.

As the workshop drew towards completion, many students talked about how much the workshop meant to them. Cortese spoke to the fact that while he has been to many other workshops, this one pushed him and his vision to a new level.

Ana Zangroniz talked about all the attention that the faculty gave to the students, making it an optimal learning environment. With more than 10 staff members, the ratio for students made for a lot of personal concentration and expanded learning opportunities.

Brooks student Jeff Bottari quoted Brendan Smialowski while sharing with everyone with his tribute to Dave Black. He stood up and said, "Dave is the human version of hope. He gives us all hope for our careers and beyond."

So, as the sun sets and the horses go to sleep, students and teachers dispatch back across the country, taking with them lessons learned and connections made.
