The Anaheim Angels honored the memory of team photographer V.J. Lovero on Friday night, April 16, 2004 by having his sons John and Jay throw out the honorary first pitches before their game against the Oakland Athletics at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The first pitches were caught by family friends and former Angels Rod Carew and Kirk McCaskill.

The Angels recognized Lovero's 20 plus years with the ballclub by dedicating the photo wells behind first and third base in his honor and will be placing permanent plaques inside them in the near future.

Lovero, who lost his four-year battle with lung cancer on January 12, 2004, was also a staff photographer with Sports Illustrated. During his career at the magazine Lovero claimed 39 covers.

Former Angels pitcher Jim Abbott and his family were among the many friends who joined Trish Lovero and her sons in the Gene Autry Suite during the ballgame. Other friends on hand included Lovero Group photographers John Cordes, Bob Binder, Phil Ellsworth and Deborah Robinson. They were also joined by photographers Scott Clarke and John McDonough.

Per Trish Lovero's request, you can now donate directly to the trust fund set up for the Lovero boys: The Lovero Children's Trust 2004 by making out a check to The Lovero Children's Trust 2004 and sending it to the following address:
