Robert F. Kennedy is assasinated in 1968.
Registration is now open for THE coolest photography event of the year, the Sports Shooter Workshop & Luau 2004, November 5 - 6 in Redondo Beach, California.

Joining featured speakers Rick Loomis and Matt Mendelsohn is an all-star list of photographers leading 19 different breakout sessions.

Among the Workshop & Luau faculty are: Peter Read Miller, Bill Eppridge and Robert Beck from Sport Illustrated, Brian Davies of the Eugene Register Guard (and SportsShooter.com's 2003 clip contest winner), Jack Gruber from USA TODAY, Rhona Wise from the European Press Agency, Rod Mar of the Seattle Times and Colorado Springs freelance photographer Dave Black.

The two-day Workshop & Luau also features two evenings of one-on-one portfolio reviews, an expanded trade show, a sports portfolio competition and an opportunity to meet and network with some of the top photographers and editors working today.

The Workshop & Luau is open to both students and professional photographers. Cost for this year's event is $125 ($150 for non-sportsshooter.com members) and $25 for full-time college or university students.

If three short years, the Sports Shooter Workshop & Luau has grown from 65 attendees the first year to over 430 last year.

"This is the best workshop in the nation," says Barry Wong, staff photographer with the Seattle Times.

Do not be confused by the name "Sports Shooter" ... breakout topics this year include: location portrait lighting, business practices for freelance photographers, beginning video techniques for still photographers, light painting, picture stories and community journalism.

"For any student coming out here it's a wonderful experience," says Houston Chronicle staff photographer Karen Warren, "It's a great chance to meet professionals."
