The SportsShooter.com Photographer of the Year will walk away with a brand-new Canon EOS-1D Mark II.
SportsShooter.com is proud to announce that Canon USA, Inc. is back in 2004 as the official sponsor of the Monthly Clip Contest.

Canon USA, Inc. and SportsShooter.com will present the 'SportsShooter.com Photographer of the Year' with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II Digital SLR. Canon has also announced that they will be presenting Brian Davies (the 2003 'SportsShooter.com Photographer of the Year') with the brand-new Mark II when the camera is released later this Spring. Davies has graciously agreed to wait the extra time needed to be awarded with Canon's newest pro-level digital camera.

The SportsShooter.com Photographer of the Year is the photographer who has accumulated the most points in the contest over the course of the year. In 2003, Brian Davies of The Register-Guard in Eugene, Oregon walked away with the title in a landslide as his 310 points lapped the field as Robert Seale from Sporting News came in second place with 140 points. Davies walks away with the new Mark II and Seale walks away with... second place.

In addition, Canon will again be awarding a monthly prize to the winner of "The Shooter's Choice Award." This award goes to the photographer whose image received the most votes in each given month, and is the most prestigious monthly award worthy of the most points.

The "Shooter's Choice" winner can come from any of the four contest categories (Sports Action, Sports Feature, News, and Feature.) Each "Shooter's Choice" award winner will receive a Canon Shooter's Accessory Pack that includes many cool new goodies.

The clip contest works as follows: The first 15 days of the month are the contest's 'entry period.' Members can enter their best images during this period of time via a web-based tool - where they submit their images to the contest right through the web browser. The second half of the month is the JUDGING period. All members vote on their favorite images. Member votes count for 100% of the total. (This has become a very popular and talked-about aspect because our members love the fact that there's no panel of 3 judges picking the winners.)

But there is a rule: Members can't vote for their own images - and we've written the program so that this cannot happen.

Thanks to Canon and Dave Metz for their energetic support of our community, and this contest. Their generosity enables us to continue this contest and proovide some fun and entertainmment for our members.

In our first year, SportsShooter.com members entered 7,968 images and selected 156 of them as winners. Congratulations to all.

Davies should expect a personal appearance from the 'Mark II Girls' when they make an appprearance in Eugene in mid-April. (Just kidding.)
