Actor - and Photographer – Jeff Bridges talks about his 'Pictures'

Actor and long-time photographer Jeff Bridges ('Seabiscuit', 'The Big Lebowski') revealed his passion for photography and behind-the-scenes-storytelling Tuesday, February 3 to a packed auditorium of students and faculty from Brooks Institute of Photography.
For years Bridges has documented his movie projects using a Widelux camera that produces extremely wide, narrow pictures. At the end of his films Bridges regularly makes a book of his photographs and gives them to participants as mementos of their work on the film. Now a compendium of Bridges pictures has been collected in a new book entitled, 'Pictures.'
Bridges' funniest story was from the making of 'The Big Lebowski.' The cast pulled an embarrassing prank on Bridges on a day when his wife and daughters, who were let in on the joke, paid a visit to the set. For that day's shot for the film Bridges had to skateboard on his back between the legs of several dancers. With his Widelux at the ready, he saw more than he expected! The picture is in his book!
After the formal presentation Bridges took questions and then stayed an additional hour for one-on-questions, autographs and Mom-I-met-a-star pictures.
The event was organized by the Brooks Visual Journalism (photojournalism) program. Bridges' work serves as a role model for students who aspire to work on long-term projects and who might want to publish a book one day. In addition, the actor's pictures look behind-the-scenes showing movie making in a way not often seen by photographers, something photojournalists often hope to accomplish in their own work.
