Super Fun at the Super Bowl

Peter Read Miller has his picture taken with the "Mark II Girls" by Robert Hanashiro at the Canon brunch on Saturday afternoon in Houston.
Super Bowl Weekend … a big party … scantily clad women … and a new camera? No folks, we’re not talking about the Maxim Party or SnooperBowl … we’re talking about Canon's brunch on Saturday before the big game.

This morning, Canon officially announced their new 1D Mark II to a throng of photographers at the restaurant La Strada in the Galleria area of Houston. The party was great. There were free drinks, served by the lovely "Mark II Girls," free food (allegedly there was shrimp, but I think that the photographers killed it within minutes), and great company.

Numerous Sportsshooter.com members were spotted, including Robert Seale, Bert Hanashiro, Bob Deutsch, Bill Frakes, and many others. The star of the show though, was Sports Illustrated staffer and SportsShooter.com member Peter Read Miller, whose appearance in Canon’s new commercial for the camera drew a hearty round of applause.

The camera is very cool, too. Though it looks and feels the same as the 1D, there are definite improvements. After you see the obvious bigger file size, and new zoom button, there are lesser-known new features. For instance, the Canon flashes are now much more accurate in TTL mode. Also, the new camera conserves battery life much better, so you can get almost twice as long out of one charge.

So that’s it from Houston. I hope everyone has a great time at their Super Bowl parties tomorrow. Be sure to tell me about the commercials.
