Peter Read Miller’s Working With Artists workshop in Denver 2003 was an exciting all-digital program (thanks to gear provided by Canon and Mamiya) and the 2004 version promises to be even better! Miller, a Sports Illustrated staff photographer and member of SportsShooter.com enjoyed working with WWA last year and is excited to be coming back again this year.
The 2004 workshop will take place April 21-25, 2004 in Denver, Colorado.
In 2003 WWA offered 4 intense days of photographing Colorado’s top-notch university, high school and pro sporting events. A CU track and field meet pushed photographic skills with lots of action and changing light, high-school basketball in a classic downtown gymnasium was great for strobe work – complicated action shots followed by portraits of the athletes. Outdoors on the DU game field, participants photographed exciting teamwork in college lacrosse. Professional mountain bikers led photographers up Dakota Ridge in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains to capture intense moments as the bikers hurtled down a steep rocky trail. Arena pro league football topped off the agenda with the Colorado Crush game at Denver’s world class Pepsi Center. Canon Camera and Mamiya both provided plenty of professional gear – cameras, lenses, remotes for participants to use during the workshop. Each photographer had the opportunity to work closely with Peter Read Miller and take home hundreds of images shot with top of the line equipment.
New York based freelancer and SportsShooter.com member Allen Murabayashi attended last year's workshop with Miller and had a great time. "We were able to shoot different sports every day of the workshop, finally culminating in a pro arena football game. Peter reviewed every single frame that we shot during the workshop. I can't imagine having that type of access to a photographer of his caliber anywhere else. As far as hands-on workshops go, Peter's can't be beat," said Murabayashi.
