One week and counting until THE coolest photography event of the year... the Sports Shooter Workshop & Luau 2003!
With over 400 people attending, there has been a huge volume of emails with questions about the upcoming event Nov, 7 - 8 in Manhattan Beach, CA.
So to lessen the number of emails I have to reply to, I have written up a little "Frequently Asked Questions" about the Workshop & Luau that I hope answers some of those pressing needs.
Workshop & Luau FAQ:
Question: Will the Southern California brush fires affect the Workshop & Luau?
Answer: No.
Question: Will Mongo Johnson and The Photodude be attending this year's Luau?
Answer: No. And Yes.
Question: Where will Robert Beck be on Nov. 8 instead of teaching his Luau breakout session?
Answer: The Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas.
Question: Will there be enough entries in the mail - in Sports Portfolio Contest?
Luau: Looks good so far.
Question: Who does The Big Kahuna think will win the Sports Portfolio Contest?
Answer: Not Brian Davies. (He's not attending The Luau so didn't enter.)
Question: What is the official drink of The Luau?
Answer: According to Wally Skalij, Red Bull and Absolut Vodka.
Question: I hear there will be an ugliest Hawaiian shirt contest? Wouldn't Ron Taniwaki win that automatically?
Answer: Yup there will be a contest. And Darrell Miho and Robbin Goddard are the judges.
Question: Since Beck will be in Vegas, who will be teaching in his assigned classroom at the Marriott?
Answer: The new class is titled: "Lunch with Bob & Vince: Conversations on Photography" conducted by USA TODAY's Bob Deutsch and The New York Times' Vincent Laforet.

Answer: Oh yeah!
Question: Will Rod Mar (aka photography's Dr. Phil) have any group hugs during his breakout session on balancing career and home life?
Answer: Only if Oprah or JLo show up in it.
Question: What restaurants do you recommend for dinner in the area?
Answer: Have a car ... Versailles and Back Home Lahaina. Walking ...Houston's and Macaroni Grill.
Question: Will Mark J. Terrill have hot models in his remote cameras breakout session?
Answer: Not unless he wants to pay for them himself.
Question: I hear The Big Kahuna can spend 5 hours in Fry's Electronics, which is just walking distance from the Marriott?
Answer: Nope. Maybe 6 hours.
Question: Will Bert Hanashiro make someone cry during the portfolio critique sessions like he did a couple of years ago at the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar?
Answer: Only if he sees a silhouette photo of Tiger Woods.
Question: Will Bob Deutsch be showing his famous collection of celebrity "tongue" portraits?
Answer: You'll have to check out the breakout he's doing with Vince Laforet to know for sure. But the Woody Allen and Barbara Bush tongues are The Kahuna's favorites!
