Win a Nikon D100 for your school!
Students ---- So you think you're a pretty good photographer?

Have you got what it takes to produce a great photograph under deadline pressure?

Well here's your chance to prove it at the Workshop & Luau / Nikon Student Shoot Out.

You'll be competing against 19 of your peers representing schools from across the country. The prize? A Nikon D100 digital SLR for your school! The rules are simple: one assignment, one camera and one hour.

The camera, a CoolPix, will be supplied by Nikon, so everybody is on even ground equipment-wise. The assignment will be handed out when participants check in and pick up their cameras. You will have one hour to shoot the assignment during the lunch break on Saturday Nov. 8.

"What we're trying to do is simulate a real world situation by giving the student shooters an assignment that could come from any daily newspaper," said the Workshop & Luau's Bert Hanashiro, "What the Shoot Out will do is show the participants what it's like to work under extreme deadline pressure."

There will be just one photographer from each school that can be entered into the Shoot Out. It is up to each school to determine the photographer to represent them in the Shoot Out. There are students from over 35 different schools registered for this year's Workshop & Luau.

So schools that have several students attending: you should meet and decide who you want to represent your school. Please do not submit more than one student's name as your entrant into this fabulous contest.

There are only 20 spaces available, so the first 20 schools that register and submit the name of its representative will be allowed to participate. So please submit the name of just one student photographer to represent your school. (The student must be a registered and confirmed participant in the Workshop & Luau 2003.)

Judging for the Student Shoot Out will be Saturday evening Nov. 8 in an open session in Terrace Ballroom A. Judges will be members of the faculty of the Workshop & Luau and Nikon.

"The open judging session is another great part of the Student Shoot Out," Hanashiro said, "The 20 photographers and their peers will witness a critique by some of the top photographers and editors in this business. This is all about learning, experiencing and growing."

While this is a competition pitting 20 schools against each other, please keep in mind that this is a learning experience and while we want to see the best work possible, photographers should also try to have some fun!

Once a school decides it's shooter to represent them, email the name of the school, the name of the student photographer, their email address and what year in school they are to: Nikonshootout@sportsshooter.com. Remember, there are only 20 spaces available, so it's first come first served!
