->> I am wondering if any one knows of apple's plans for either an upgraded G4 powerbook, or a new G5 powerbook. Also, for those of you using a 1Ds, and a 1.25ghz G4 powerbook, is it fast with the large files?
Thanks,
Josh |

| ->> I do not know if this helps you, but a D1X shot on raw on a 1 ghz G4 powerbook transfers large files very very quickly. The files sizes i've shot have averaged around 45-50 MBs. |

| ->> Desktops are next in line for updates, and rumor has it laptops will be updated sometime in the summer. No clear word on whether they will be G4 or G5. |

->> Apple is in a huge dry spell right now. You know it's bad when their front page touts the G5, which they were recently told to stop advertising as the "the world's fastest, most powerful personal computer."
It has been 90 days since the last product update of any kind. Powerbooks have gone more than 200 days without an update. The G5 hasn’t been updated since its introduction last June (unless you count adding a second processor to the 1.8 ghz model, which happened in November). When the G5 was introduced, Steve Jobs promised a 3.0 ghz chip within 12 months, which means if he wasn’t lying, a 3.0 ghz will be introduced in the next 10 weeks.
In short, don't hold your breath for a G5 powerbook. |

| ->> Just got a powerbook G4 with Mechanic 4 and Elements. I like the ease of use and Mac seems very friendly. I use a Dell PC with an attached router so I can edit, caption and send with the Pbook. So many things are nice about the powerbook G4 1.25 meghz. The local college (WMU) hooked me up with wireless high-speed. I like the PC, but there is something pleasing about the Mac Powerbook. I guess it's many things. |

->> Hey Josh,
I use a 1ghz powerbook G4 with a 1D and it works fantastically. I added an extra 512mb of RAM when I got it so now it has a total of 768mb...it works smoothly. If you import with a firewire reader, it is really efficient. I edit with photoshop cs and photo mechanic and i haven't had problems with it so far.
Hope that helps!
