->> I know this is a little bit crazy....but a business friend wants me to FULLY outfit him with photo, video, and apple gear. He owns a few different businesses and has plans on using me and this gear to create digital video, photos, websites, DVD's, etc. He also wants me to do a full blown documentary on his 18 year old son who is a budding rodeo star.
So he has done a little homework and this is the base gear that he wants:
1D Mk II
400 2.8
Panasonic DVX-100a
17 inch powerbook
All the software, lenses, accessories, etc...
I have most of the photo stuff covered, but I need some help on the video gear and software. He wants me to buy it tonight or tomorrow morning with a credit card he gave me, so time is short.
Would you guys recommend any particular dealers for something this big? Feel free to give me a call if you have any advice or leads. Or post on here. Thanks,
Josh |

->> Josh,
I would recommend talking to an industrial sales manager at one of the large shops, or an SS sponsor. Samy's and Penn Camera, I believe, are Apple dealers so they can take care of you on that end...maybe Roberts is too. I would call one of the shops up, and talk to the industrial sales department. You'll get the most bang for your (his?) buck that way, and can do one-stop shopping. You can probably fax one of these shops a list, and get an all-in-one quote this way.

->> Penn Camera is an authorized Apple dealer, not to mention the prices Jeff can quote you are generally lower that what you see on the Penn Camera web site.
Never gone wrong there from gaffers tape to camera bodies. |

->> I have one addition to the lens that you may want to consider ... 300/4 IS.
Another thing is that you have no wide-angle listed ... like a 14/2.8.
Good Luck! |

->> tripods:
Gitzo 1348 carbon fiber or better the 1548 carbon fiber. I have both and found that when I had my 400 the 1348 was pretty well maxed out. The 1548 is sturdier and my 600 is happy as can be.
I have an Arca B1 on the 1348, the 1548 gets the Wimberley head on it.
monopod = Gitzo 1588 carbon fiber. Built like a telephone pole. I have a RRS ARCA clamp on it. |
