Photo Mechanic and captions

->> I am trying to alter my workflow a wee bit and have a question:

If you write a general caption in the Photo Mechanic ITPC caption window and then ingest all images to your desktop/where ever, then all the images will have the same caption info. That part I understand. The part I don't get, and maybe it isn't posssible, is when I fine tune a caption for a certain photo in the PM caption window the new caption isn't in Photoshop's File Info. I found this out the hard way today when I did what I just explained and three photos all had the same generic caption that I originally wrote even after I fine tuned each photo's caption in PM. Does the fine tuning (re-writing) of a caption need to be done in File Info? Is the ITPC caption window just for the generic info (byline, slug, etc..) which will all be the same?

Thanks for any and all help.

Jake

->> I wonder if you tried to add you fine tuned captions to a tiff file. If so, Photo Mechanic won't save it. It works only with .jpg - at least that's what I've been told by their costumer support when I encountered a simliar problem. There seem to be some kind of trick to make it work with tiffs too, but honestly I didn't really get it.

->> jake,
after ingesting and applying the generic captioning info, are you then editing photos in pm, and then saving them as jpegs through pm? in the save as jpeg window there is an option to apply IPTC info, and if you check that box all the newly created jpegs will have the initial generic caption applied to them, even though you changed the captions on the original files.

->> I was attempting to caption .nef files in PhotoMechanic before toning them. This being after I wrote generic cutlines and then ingesting the entire take. I then tried to write a caption in PM after the image was toned and saved as a .jpeg but the caption still wouldn't show up in File Info. I gather from my error earlier today that the caption needs to be correct in File Info or else the receivng party won't get the correct caption?

Thanks for the help,

Jake
