->> This is a well documented scam. I know there are other posts / webpages on this. Give me a little bit and I'll dig them up. Basically, the cashier's check is fraudulent and by the time you find out you have already sent him your gear and cash out of your account for whatever the difference in the cashier's check and purchase price is.

->> I got the same exact email...
I told him that I did not have a bank account to deposit the cashier's check so to have his client send me one from an American Bank so I can cash it.
We will see how far he goes with it. |

| ->> I got the same scam yesterday . Told them where to go . The more I here things like this happens I wish that for you to buy from this site you would have to be a sportsshooter member. The one thing about this site is that you have to give your real name and you address and info is posted. I would also like almost all the personal info of fellow sporsshooters to be kept where only memebers can see. |

->> Just so you guys know, this IS A SCAM! As if you couldn't tell that from the beginning but don't waste your time thinking about it. This Pittsburg Post Gazette article should help explain what all those "cashier's checks" are all about.

->> I have gotten three emails stating that my uncle, a billionaire oil barron in northern Africa, has died and I am the only heir to his fortune. All they wanted was my bank account number and routing number so that they could clean out my ac- errrr, I mean deposit my millions and millions of dollars.
I don't have a billionaire uncle in North Africa or anywhere else for that matter, but I did tell them if they would give me a good faith down payment of $100,000 in cash I would gladly give them $10,000,000 for their trouble once the rest of the estate had settled.
They haven't sent me the cash yet. Go figure. |

Funny, I never hear back from him. |

There is more information about these fake checks at this FDIC site...
http://www.fdic.gov/news/news/SpecialAlert/2004/sa2204.html
I also sent him an email that may be a little different from the ones he probably gets...
"My dear sir,
I received the cashier's check today. I did not realize that you were going to make the check for such a large amount ($3,400.11) since the item you were going to purchase was only $300.
After I cashed the check I decided that I will NOT be sending you the balance for the amount. As a matter of fact I will not be shipping the item that you purchased either. Instead I will use the money to buy myself a very nice expensive camera and maybe hire a stripper to dance for me.
I will like to thank you for your generosity and if ever want to do business again, please don't hesitate to send me another cashier's check.
My regards,
Carlos"
I sure hope I get some sort of response... |

->> LOL
i got the same kind of scam this morning
luckily i'm a very experienced ebayer so can spot this stuff a mile off.
although its not hard, as my classified add was for any work at Le Mans. So the message didnt exactly make sense.
i've posted the message and the IP, so if the staff here can ban the IP that would at least reduce further spam a little bit

Message from Fabian:
Dear Seller,
I am interested in purchasing your (le mans) without any further delay.
So, I will be glad to know how to go on from here.
And it is good that I have a relation in U.S where it will be shipped to.
Please, I await your quick response on this respect.
Sincerely,
Fabian

| ->> I've receieved a number of emails since I posted an advert for my 400mm f/2.8 last week sometime...but being an accomplished eBay user, it was easy to spot. Just take one look at the English they use for a start, and the fact that they all seem to have 'clients' that will be instructed to pay whatever asking price you're after. Too good to be true? Unfortunately, yes...not even SS.com keeps us safe from these time-wasters. |
