Photo Mechanic 4 for MAC

->> I recently downloaded the pre release version of Photo Mechanic 4. The problem I am having is that after I copy the images(through photo mechanic 4) from a CF card to a folder on my desktop the images are opening up with the Picture Viewer when I double click on the thumbnail in the folder. When images where copied from a CF card in photo Mechanic 3 the images would open up in Photo Shop when I clicked on a thumbnail in the folder.( I did set my editor to photo shop, 300dpi). When I removed the Picture viewer and tried to open a copied photo, it opened in Illustrator. The images don't seem to be photo shop jpeg's. The images do open up in photoshop if I edit through Photo Mechanic. Has anyone else noticed this?

->> Michael:
I don't know if you've tried this.....open up one of your folders that contains an image downloaded from your CF card. Single click on one of the files (just so it becomes highlighted - you don't want to open it). Then press the keyboard combination of command-I (that's the key with the apple on it). You should come up with an information box - look for the box with the phrase "Open with" - click on the triangle that's pointing to the right, it should immediately tell you what application the image should open up with. If it's not Photoshop, then open up the menu, and then click on Photoshop. Then click on the "Change All..." button right beneath. From that point on all jpegs should open up with Photoshop....
If you've tried that, then I'm stumped....I've already used Photo Mechanic 4 this way, and so far, everything's worked out OK.
PS - if anyone's had problems with Photo Mechanic crashing, one thing you might check is the color settings - using a laptop, I never noticed that the monitor was set to thousands of colours - it should be set to millions - I had Photo Mechanic 4 crashing on me because my screen settings were set for thousands of colors - Photo Mechanic 3 worked fine.

->> I have been having similar issues with the pre release version only my issue is that it isn't even giving me the option of opening in Photoshop. Should I have to deleate the previous version 3 to get it to open my pictures.

->> Just a thought, but you need to tell PM4 which program to open images into.
Go to the preferences box and then make sure you are on the general tab. Just below the middle of the preferences box it says something "Application to edit images in" Then press the choose button and navigate to Photoshop CS, 7.0 or Photoshop Elements Click ok.
Now when you open (edit) images from PM4 they should open into the program you picked.
Hope this helps

->> Per the guys at CameraBits, with version 4, you have to hold down the option key and double click and it will open in Photoshop or whatever editing program you have selected in the preferences.

->> Michael,
No problem, I did the same thing as well when I first updated.
You might want to check out the spelling feature. You have to turn it on when the IPTC pad is open. Should be under the edit menu. I have mine set to check spelling as I type. If I misspell something, it will underline the word. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me.

->> There is now an updated pre-release for PM4 at the Camera Bits website which incorporates some of the changes requested by users since their pre-release at the beginning of March.
I'll be downloading it later, but I think it's very cool how they are responding to their customers like this.
