Photoshop CS Issue / Question
Steve Boyle, Photographer, Student/Intern

->> OK, so I shoot an image with my 1D, any lens, any shutter speed, any f-stop...dump it to my computer, edit, and correct tones, etc in photoshop and resave it in another location...

The camera info (shutter speed, aperature, etc) are all stored with the image and able to be viewed both in photoshop and photo mechanic.

BUT...

Once I resave the image, that information is altered. In both photo mechanic and photoshop it changes the shutter speed to 1/random 10 digit number (example 1/89398347523) the aperture changes to 1.1 or 1.2, something crazy low, when I shot it at 2.8. The ISO remains correct and the lens used becomes 0.0mm.

Summary - capture info before anything is done in photoshop is fine, but after toning/resaving, the capture info is skewed.

I'm curious why this happens, how to change it, and if anyone has experienced this problem or can duplicate it.

Thanks in advance.

no one else has ever heard of this?

->> after some more testing, it is indeed only the images from one camera that do this. they do it every time. i check the info of the image, its fine, tone/crop/sharper/etc and check it again and its messed up. everytime, the same things are affected in the same way.

this holds true on other people's versions of photoshop CS, but i'm not sure about others cameras. if anyone has a 1d and cs and has some time could you please try this and chime in.

i can't understand why this would be a camera problem, unless the information is being written improperly and unsecurely or something. any advice, please....

->> Steve,
I shoot with both a D100 and a D2H, and have cropped, toned, sharpened, save, etc. in PS CS and can still read the original EXIF information correctly. Verified with multible and differing brands of CF cards as well. Too wierd - I've never heard of that happening. I agree with Sean - this might be one for Adobe to answer. Are you a member of NAPP? If so, you could pose the question on their web forums.
