| ->> Fast thumbnail viewing, batch captioning, fast rotate (horz to vert) tagging while editing for easy and quick editing, captioning quickly by only having to fill in the main fields once, fixing color balance adjusting exposure on RAW files, the list goes on. Its a great program. |

| ->> Mike, I believe that photomechanic will not allow adjustment of canon 1D/1Ds raw files. That can only be done via the Canon aquire, Adobe Raw Coverter and maybe capture 1. It does allow it for the DCS520/d2000 raw tif files. |

| ->> Capture One works great for RAW Images. I have a test copy of Photo Mechanic but cannot get it to work with RAW images. So buying this program for the 1D would not be practical??? |

| ->> Mike, yes you are correct. PM does not do much for 1D raw files except to act as a thumbnail viewer. If you own PS CS, they have the built in raw converter in it. |

| ->> I should add that PM is great when working with jpg images for all the reasons that Craig mentioned above. |

->> I have downloaded the trial version of Photo Mechanic also, and have found that I am not able to do anything with my Nikon RAW files either, beyond viewing thumbnails.
Would it be a practical workflow solution to manage RAW files in Photoshop CS, save them as jpegs then caption, etc in Photo Mechanic? I have recently seen the virtues of shooting RAW, and would like to streamline my workflow based on shooting RAW all the time. |

->> To batch photocaption, you select all or the images you want, and then you do Control 'I' and then you can fill in the fields and hit the button that says to apply all selected.
Hope this helps. |

->> Debra,
You'll hit Apple+l to get to the IPTC stationary page or under the image heading select the IPTC stationary page. From here you have all the field you would under File Info in Photoshop but what's even better is that you can customize each field from the Pull Down lists. To use the different fields just check the boxes you need.

->> You can also batch caption as you swipe the files off of your card - With a card in your reader and available on the desktop, Hit COMMAND-G to bring up the import box, the select the box under "Options" for "Apply IPTC stationary pad to photos. You then select the button beneath, which will allow you to fill out all of your info, prior to import - I go so far as to put partial captions in the caption field, so that every photo allready says "during the Auburn-Alabama Iron Bowl game, November......, photo by Vasha Hunt." This really saves time when you are prepping a bunch of photos.
For RAW files this can be step one to get caption info on all the images. Then pick the shots you like, click on edit, and it will launch the RAW plug-in for photoshop. I'd assume it will work for Cannon's Raw software program as well, but don't have Cannon files to test. |
