Examples would be Paul Simon's "Kodachrome" or Weezer "Photograph" . I have a decent list so far but im sure you guys will have plenty i don't. list away... |

->> I'm not trying to start a whole new thing here, I just get concerned when I see photographers who are very quick to download music without paying for it. Photographers are notorious for expecting to paid for each and every use of their photos, which they should be. The minute any photographer finds work that was used without permission all hell breaks loose. If someone can't 'bring themselves to pay your price' for a shoot, but use one of your photos anyway, that you never find out about, is that ok?
I'm just playing devils advocate here... |

->> Since we are back to the original thread now...
I can add "Photograph" by Def Leppard. "Wishing (If I had a Photograph of you)" by a Flock of Seagulls. There is a good "inde" band by the name of "Aztec Camera".
Then you have songs with photo references: "Turning Japanese" by the Vapors. "Freedom 90" by George Michael. "Dreams" by Van Halen. "Black and White" by Sarah McLachlan. "Talk to you Later" by the Tubes. (Note: Best rock video with photographers)(Might be the only rock video with that many photographers).
Then you have songs with more obscure photo references; "Beauty of Gray" by Live. "Lithium" by Nirvana.
For those of you pleading with your photo editors;
"Please,Please,Please, Let me get what I want" by The Smiths.
AND, for those who might care...
"Lumberjack Song" by Monty Python.
Why is this here? Just Because... |

Yawning or Snarling by the Tragically Hip...
A few more of these posts and we could burn an entire Photo Song CD and sell it as the official Theme Music of Sports Shooters.

It's on their CD "Injury Loves Melody" and I highly recommend this album. These guys aren't huge yet, but they dang well should be. Think Foo Fighters meets Filter. Great stuff!

Did I miss it..."Freeze-Frame" by the J. Geils Band? Motor drive throughout, too!
Painful, but kudos to Jason on the copyright point. (Frustrated musician/songwriter here...) and technically, on the software issue as well...although I find it difficult to emphathize with Bill Gates... |

Still, "Picture" by King's X is by far the best. Check it out if you don't believe me. It's the best song, not the most famous. Second is Diffuser, "Wide Eyes." |

->> Although its been awhile since I updated the Photo Song webpage http://www.winningimage.com/frivsongs.htm (there's only about 75 songs listed there) - my list of photo songs is now over 800. Most of those have some photo-related word in the title - and that's how I found them using Napster and Kazaa. Of course, that doesn't find the songs which reference photography in the lyrics alone - so those are more difficult to find. A sampling of titles that haven't been mentioned here: Pigeon Camera, Dirty Pictures, Shutterbug, Wish I'd Taken Pictures, The Camera Never Lies, Camera Shy, Kodak Ghosts, Gentleman Take Polaroids, Photographic Reject, Something's Wrong With This Picture, and Dead in the Darkroom. |

->> Well, I wouldn't call these 'great' songs.. but being a Depeche Mode fan, I have to add "A Photograph of You" from their A Broken Frame album. Then there is also their song "Photographic" from the Speak & Spell album... ("I take pictures, photographic pictures", "bright light - darkroom, bright light - darkroom, bright light - darkroom") it's my preference of the two.
Both are from early in their discography... so pretty basic synthesizer stuff and simple lyrics.
Then there is a version of "Photographic" on the Trancemode 2.0.1 CD... a bit more 'eurodance' than the original. |

->> Green Day's Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)
Another turning point a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist directs you where to go
So make the best of this test and don't ask why
It's not a question but a lesson learned in time
It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life
So take the photographs and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it's worth it was worth all the while
It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life
It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life
It's something unpredictable
But in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life |

->> Kodachrome!!! "Mama don't take my Kodachrome away!!"
I heard that a band was working on a remake of that song but that are going to change the name to "Flashcard"
Mama don't take my flashcard" just does not have the same ring to it!!
Maybe we should write some lyrics ourselves........ and get everyone together at the Luau and do one of those group recordings like "We are the world"!!!!
We could have break-a-way solo's from Bert (midtone), Grover (high-pitch) and Brad (bass-baratone)
Could be fun!! |
