->> Has anybody made any adjustments for editing in 16-bit mode?
Currently, I am shooting RAW, making my adjustments in ACR, and converting it to a psd file in 16-bit Adobe RGB. I, then, make my crop, do my regular adjustments of Auto-Levels or Auto-Contrast/resize the image in steps to the size I need/a slight USM, then convert it to 8-bit. I, then save the file as a JPEG at quality level 10 for transmitting or printing or whatever...
Is there something that I should be watching out for, or doing differently? Anybody with any suggestions? |

| ->> I'm pretty much doing everything in 16 bit mode until the last moment, unless I run into something I need to do that doesn't work in 16 bit mode. I almost always save a 16 bit version of the image as a tiff or PSD before converting to 8 bit so I can get back to the adjusted 16 bit version easily if I need to. This has worked well for me, and I haven't run into any problems. |

| ->> Are there advantages/drawbacks from saving in tiff versus psd? I presently work with PS 6 and will be upgrading to PS CS next month so I look forward to working in the 16 bit format. |

| ->> PSD are Tiff's but also have some Photoshop specific information in them from what I recall. Probably best to keep them as PSD's depending on what you have done to them. Nice thing is that it is supported just as a TIF is in most any application, it's nice to be the premeire image manipulation package. |

| ->> PSD's don't show up in PhotoMechanic, for this reason I always save in TIFF so I can browse the images in PM. |

->> I only tend to save in PSD or TIFF if I am continuning to work on an image, or if it is something that I have done a lot of work on. They are such large files though, that I have found myself deleting them, unless it was an illustation or something I had to do massive edits on.
For the most part, my edits are so minor that starting all over from a RAW file takes me less than two minutes.
Michael Hickey,
have you tried using the PSCS file browser yet? I have found it useful for file browsing, and have ceased using Photo Mechanic for anything but captioning. |

| ->> PhotoMechanic is tied in pretty tight with our workflow here, we edit, caption and proof from it. |
