| ->> So... the Adobe Camera RAW (included with Photoshop CS) is sweet.... for DCS520 images. however, it refuses to open D2000 images. (the same damn camera, essentially) Anyone got a clue? Is something set wrong or what's the deal? |

->> Sean:
Sounds like they used the Kodak supplied software development kit (SDK). Kodak stopped supporting the D2000 in later versions of their software. Yes, the cameras are identical, but the file header from the D2000 is probably what is stopping it from being converted. The last Kodak DCS520 acquire plugin for Photoshop will still support the D2000. This plugin limits you to Windows and Mac OS 9 platforms.
I read somewhere that Canon refused to supply any more financial support to Kodak for the further development of the D2000/D6000 series of cameras, so Kodak just dropped support of D2000 files in later Kodak software. |

| ->> According to Jay Kelbley at Kodak- All Canon software support is the responsibility of Canon per their agreement- Kodak claims they'd love to offer support but Canon won't allow it- However the Kodak FFM opens D2000 files instantly- though of course you need to do all of your image tweaks in Photoshop proper- which kinda sucks... |

->> For my old D2000 stuff I use the old Photoshop acquire module that is still available on the Kodak site and use it on my machine dedicated to OS9.
That's the only thing I've been able to come up with. |

->> This is great info for anyone looking to buy one of these cameras second hand!!!
Makes them worth less than they already are. |

| ->> That's what makes me wonder... the files are identical... Photo Mechanic 2 (for Mac OS 9 only) opens them... DCS Acquire 5.9.3 (for Mac OS 9 only)... and i think Photo Desk 3 opens D2000 images just fine (and its for Mac OS X) -- but it's workflow SUCKS and its SLOW (i know i know... some people disagree, but i hate it)... It REALLY irks me that i'm so close to a half-decent OS X workflow with my older-than-dirt cameras... gah! |

| ->> UPDATE... for anyone who cares... Adobe has patched the code to include (unoffically) the D2000... it will be available in "early 2004" according to Thomas Knoll. Cool! Adobe rocks! only took 3 days to get that through. |

->> I believe PhotoDesk 3 only opens the thumbnails attached to the images and not the RAW images themselves from the D2000.
Nice to hear Adobe is supporting it though! |
