->> I have some good hardware for my digital darkroom, but I'm looking at what software you guys recommend.
I'm about to buy Photoshop 8, but beyond that I dont know what people recommend. Capture1 or BreezeBrowser? Which plugins are worth the money? Scanning software?
and for hardware, Im looking for a new monitor. 19" or so. Whats a good brand/model for a good price (under $300 but Im willing to go to $400) |

->> PhotoMechanic (although being a Mac user I don't know how well it runs on the PC side).
PhotoKit and PhotoSharpener, both from pixelgenius.
Can't speak to PC versions of FTP programs (I use Transmit for the Mac; don't know if a PC version is available).
Am sure PC users will chime in with recommendations. |

->> I just switched from the PC side of things to the Mac side ... on my computer, PhotoMechanic gave me a lot of problems. That was the old version, I have not used their newer PC version.
Besides that, Fotostation is also available on the PC. |

->> I don't know that you need either Capture1 or Breezebrowser if you are going to use Photoshop CS. Personally, I just use PS CS now. I do still use Photo Mechanic for captioning. (It runs great on the PC.)
Neat Image will clean some of the higher ISO images better than an ACR 2.0 RAW conversion, but it is so much slower. What are your goals for your "digital darkroom"? Did you read Vince LaForet's article on his digital darkroom? |

->> I read the article, and got a lot out of it. But I have just heard of numerous programs i.e. PhotoMechanic, Neat Image, Fred Miranda's plugins, Nik Sharpener, etc. Seems like you guys are the only forum that has their heads on straight about what really works. I get the sense of a lot of wannabe's on robgalbraith.com and dpreview (though I have learned a lot of information from both of them.)
As for goals, I just want to make sure I have the basics covered. I just hear so much about little programs that I dont know if I should even bother trying stuff out. |

| ->> I am on Mac platform. I use Photoshop CS, Photomechanic, Fred Miranda's image intripulation, iCorrect, and the Canon Image Browser to import my images. |
