->> Hi,

Not to good with Photoshop so here's my questions. Is there a way to save your caption info so you don't have to retype the entire caption on every photo?

Thanks in advance.

->> Patrick,

The method I use is to make an Action in PS.

Go to: Window/Actions this will bring up the Action box. Then choose Create New Action (little icon at the bottom of the box). Press record, and then perform your operations as you would normally. At the end go back to the Action window (still open) and press Stop/playing Recording.

Then go to File/Automate/Batch. Make sure the Action name is listed, choose the Source Folder and press OK.

Then Walla! your actions will be performed on a batch of files in the folder you choose.

Cheers.....

Ian

->> The "Save" button (PS prior to CS) in the lower right of the file info window will save the caption to a file that can be loaded into other pics.

In CS it is under the arrow in the upper right as "save metadata"

->> One can also create a "file info" file in photoshop, it bears the *.XMP extension and can be saved on your hard drive. I created several generic *.XMP files depending on the assignments and then like Ian Elliott described create an action. His method is a bit different as he creates an specific action for your assignment, whereas with this method you can use the action to load pre-saved file info files into any image's file information section.

->> Reed Hoffmann talked about this in his Photoshop breakout at the Luau for a good little bit. He is a pro at Photoshop, but he even said to use PhotoMechanic. It is not too much money, and you can try it out for free for a little bit. And you can batch caption.

->> I prefer using Photo Mechanic (www.camerabits.com). You can test PhotoMechanic for 2 weeks and once you do, you'll always wonder how you lived without it.

I use PhotoMechanic (used to use FotoStation) to initially batch caption all the photos from a shoot with the date, city, state, country, title, etc etc etc, and basic info in the caption area, such as:

23-NOVEMBER-2003 AMHERST, MASSACHUSETTS, USA
---UMASS WOMENS BASKETBALL VS HOLY CROSS--- at The Mullins Center. The UMass Minutewomen fell to Holy Cross, 63-to-68, during their season opener game.
CREDIT: STEVEN E. FRISCHLING for UMASS ATHLETICS

After this info is in, I then go and add specific details to each photo I need to transmit.

With PhotoMechanic I can batch 300 photos in about a minute, then tag the selected photos, and open their header info to load the details. With Photoshop it can can take 10-15 min, with PhotoMechanic I can do it in about 5 minutes.
