How many shutter cycles have YOU shot?

->> A recent F5 article reports that at least one Nikon F5 has crossed the million shutter cycle mark:
http://nikon.virtualpresscentre.co.uk/pressreleases/84.shtml
That made me wonder just how many shutter cycles have YOU depressed? I know I have about 15,000 or so in the past 18 months, but would have a hard time guessing how many in my photography career. |

->> Hmm, I have only been able to keep accurate count since this past summer when I started shootin gdigital. So, since July 1st, I have shot over 10000 images. Not couting the 20-30 rolls of filmI have shot with my Eos3.
I consider myself a light shooter, since I only work 3-4 days a week. |

I'd say probably 150,000 on my F5, and 70,000 on my D1x. Haven't blown a shutter yet...it'll probably go soon tho! |

->> The 1 (and only battery I have) has 2105 frames anit;s at 52% remaining. Plus, I've previewed approximately 1500 of those shots.
However, you definitely need another battery..but 2 batteries should be more than enough for even the most demanding shooters out there! |

->> Well I know my F4 shutter crapped out shortly after 200,000 frames. I've shot about the same on my F5 and about half that on my F3. With the D1X, I'd say probably 25,000 frames. Maybe a little less. So I'm over half a million.
However I used to work with a guy whose F4 went over a million frames. I saw the documentation from Nikon on that. So I don't know why the F5 hitting a million is such a big deal. |

->> My D1 Classic is at around 294,000 (bought Sept 2000). I have logged how many times the frame counter has rolled over, so this is how I have come to this number.
EOS 1D #1 (bought in April 2003) is at around 38,000
EOS 1D #2 (bought in April 2003) is at around 43,000
EOS 10D (bought early Oct 2003) is at around 5,000
Again, I am basing this info on how many times my frame counter has rolled over.
My DCS520 had 196,000 when I sold it.
I can't even fathom how many cycles any of mu FA bodies have, or muy F3hp
I know an event photographer who has to shoot around 5,000 cycles a week, if not more. At least he gets paid a boat load more than I do, so he can afford to keep getting new cameras :0) |

->> Robert:
The DCS5xx/6xx/7xx series bodies have a full counter built in, which tells you exactly how many cycles the shutter has been fired.
With my D1/D1x I just kept track of how many times my counter went back to 0000 for my own maintenance records. This way when something happens, I know about how many cycles the camera went through. |

->> My first D-1H had well over 100,000 shutter cycles through it in about 15 months. I sent it in for a repair after an impact damage, and Nikon kept sending it back to me broken, so they finally replaced the camera with a refurb. Since then I haven't really kept track of it, and I haven't kept track of how many I have shot on my D-100.
Prior to switching to digital? I have no idea. Alot.

Conor, were there some magic words you used to get a refurb?

->> Nathan,
The trick for me was to be very, very polite and understanding, even after almost 3 months of my camera going back and forth to Nikon. The nicer you are to them, the better they will treat you.
After my 2nd repair in 2 1/2 months (and the camera was gone for almost all of that time), Nikon informed me that their policy is to replace any camera that has been sent back to service three times for the same problem. They told me that was their policy, but I know other people who haven't had the same luck as myself and haven't had their cameras replaced. So my recommendation is to be very polite and friendly, even when things look bad, and they will take care of you.

->> I shot 11 or 12,000 frames on my D1 over the past weekend. (Thu-Mon), plus almost 30 rolls of film.
How many TOTAL... who knows! I'm probably up in the several hundred thousand frames range by now... I bought my D1 in April of '00.
Recently had it in to Torrance for an 'overhaul', and I'm guessing the shutter is one of the things they replaced. Never had it just stop shooting on me, though... the only types of problems I got off and on are more electronic in nature. Camera would lock up after saving files, and I'd need to shut it off, remove and replace the battery, and turn it back on again. Then it always came right back. Didn't happen too often, though, but that was one of the rrasons I took it in for the overhaul. |

->> Well, I had an original Eos 1 (from like '91 or when ever they first came out) that I had 3 shutters in.
I had about 200,000 on one, 170,000 on the next and the 3rd one was in it when I sold it a few months ago, but I'd guess about 50,000 on that one........
I bought my 1D in April and I've only got about 12,000 on it so far, but stills are not my full time profession anymore.......
I shot alot of sports on that original Eos1 and the PJ stuff made it take a beatin.....
