I have a couple of questions: What cord did you use in order to make the laptop get connected to the projector? Would that be the same kind of cord you use if you want to show a presentation on a TV-screen?. And what softwares were used for the slideshows. Depending on your laptop, you can connect directly to a VGA monitor connector, composite, and or S-Video inputs. Personally I made a few slide shows using iView, it’s a pretty intuitive programming considering the price.
