->> Since I'll jump into the digital world with the release of the D2H, I have been looking into various related software programs. I'm a Windows XP OS user and was wondering if any SS.com members are using the Digital Pro Software and your thoughts on it. Photoshop CS vs. Capture 4 vs. Digital Pro vs. ????????
Thanks |

->> You can try out Digital Pro for 30 days and come to your own conclusion. Version 2 is much faster than 1, but not as fast as ACDSee for browsing and tagging. You can also try out ACDSee for free (with some limitations) - I like that approach to selling software - try before you buy - rather than rely on brochures, or getting many varied opinions: how it works for others. Software has to work for you, your needs, and your workflow - not the other way around, me thinks.

->> Dunno how Photo Mechainc works on the windoze side, but as Suratt said "Bestest browser" :-)
Another one that photographers seem to like ACDSee ( could be spelled wrong) but windoze people I know see to like it.. |

->> If you are looking for a very robust image browser and archiving solution you should try FotoStation. For me it is the best browser and archiving tool around. The two features that I find the most useful is #1 the ability to tag images with different priorities so you can isolate them from each other when making selections which is very helpful when working with large numbers of images. (I can explain this in detail if you want to send me a private email.)
This is a feature that I really wish the folks at CameraBits would add to Photo Mechanic. And #2 is the programs ability to create a database for both online and offline archives with user defined keywords. So, for any existing CD or DVD archives you might have you just insert the CD and allow FS to index it. Then later when you use FS to search for an image it will tell you which CD/DVD it's on.

Another useful feature is the ability to group rotate images on disk so that they open an image in Photoshop it is already in the correct orientation. FS can also be set to launch automatically when a CF card is detected - it can group caption images either at ingest or after the fact - a number of template captions can be created and stored etc, etc....and these are just the highlights. Like I said, it is very robust.
