->> I am having a problem with still images becoming pixelated when imported to iMovie. I am trying to use it to make a slideshow with music etc. It does not seem to matter what the image resolution or screen screen res. is set at. I use the most recent version of iMovie and OSX.

Has anyone else had this problem? Help is appreciated.

->> i'm using an iBook, 600MHz on OS 9.2 using iMovie 2.0
i import my .jpg images at 1024 x ??? at 72 dpi compressed at 10. uncompressed file size is roughly 2-3Megs, compressed size is roughly 2-300k.
this works like a charm for me.

->> It happens to me too. The images look pixelated on the computer screen when watching them in the iMovie window, but when you export the saved movie to tape, DVD or high qualitiy Quicktime movie, they should look great. I've used high-res and lo-res photos in iMovie and they all come out crystal clear when exported.

->> Maybe the program automatically displays a lower resolution "preview" image instead of the full resolution so as to not take up alot of system resources. That would explain why the photos look fine when exported to the final product. If this is the case, there is probably an option under preferences to enable full-res viewing.

I had the same problem with iMovie when trying to put together a slideshow with music no matter what resolution used.

My fix was to use iPhoto and gather the images into the Photo LIbrary. To fix the order of the images, I just adjusted the dates to put the photos in order. Sizes really are not important as long as they are large enough for the resolution you want to output. I did nothing but drop in 200dpi files saved as jpgs.

To play a slideshow you can select the icon and play and select the duraction of each image. There is no deviation with the time. To play music just attach a selected iTunes music file.

What I have done to make things easier, I convert the show to a Quicktime document at whatever resolution I want. When played in a registered version of Quicktime, you can present the movie in full screen mode.

This left field approach fixed the pixelated problem I was having with iMovie also. And the show will now run on any machine running Quicktime when the show is saved to a CD.

Current iView also has the Quicktime and slideshow functions now also. Haven't had a chance to check it out as of yet.

->> when you're working on the show the images will look fuzzy, when you export to quicktime (I assume), try clicking:

export - "To Quicktime," formats - "Expert Settings"; then click "Export"; in new window click "Options..." - a new window will pop up - under "Video" click "Settings" another new window will pop up, in that window in the top left pull down menu go to "Photo-Jpeg" then click "OK," "OK" and save... should look tack sharp...

this is the way I learned to do it... if you export "Full Quality DV" the images won't look sharp in QT, especially text... but if you use the above method which a coworker taught me, once you export it the images and text will be tack... if you export to iDVD you don't have to do all that stuff...

I had all my images sized at 10 inches as the longest dimension by 150 dpi... but check this link out, this guy says that dpi doesn't matter... but pixel size does...

does anyone else do it this way?
