->> For the Canon R3, peer to peer (PTP) thethering, when setting up WiFi tethering to EOS Utility / DPP, I am only offered Channels 1-11 (2.4GHz) and not Channel 36-165 (5GHz). It works at 2.4 GHZ but is very slow. This is in contrast the the Canon promotional link which advertises 5 GHz tethering. And Canon CPS tells me that the 5GHz communication is not possible with the R3 camera. At least not peer to peer.
This is in contrast to the Canon 1DX3 for which, when using the WFTE9 transmitter of course, you are offered 2.4 and 5 HZ options in PTP mode. 5 GHz works great on the 1DX3 with the WFT transmitter. I use channel 149. For wireless tethering with the 1DX3 + WFT, for displaying a photo on the laptop to a client just after pressing the shutter button, the speed difference between 2.4 and 5 GHz is dramatic. 1/2 second vs. 3 seconds. Granted the range is less with 5GHz, but it does not matter when you are in the same room with the clients. Note that 2.4GHz will penetrate walls.
For Canon users, your best bet for rapid, PTP tethering to display your clients' photos is the 1DX Mark 3 with the attached WFT transmitter. |
