->> Hi all ... I've been contacted by a regional publication associated with a national charitable organization about using one of my photos for a story they are working on ... they have offered to pay for the photo's use, but I'm curious on what I should ask.
Here's the magazine's particulars (I'm leaving the name of the org out of this for now) -- 18,000 monthly circulation, primarily in northeastern U.S. The photo would also be used on the org's website accompanying the story.
Suggestions on what I should ask (or start off the negotiations at)? |

->> Go to a site like Getty.com or Corbis.com, try to purchase any picture for the same usage as you are having to grant, and see how their pricing comes up. That will give you some idea.
If you go to my website, www.wallynell.com, I use Fotoquote and it should also be able to give you some idea of how to charge.
Good luck, ... and don't undercharge... |

| ->> Thanks Tim, Wally ... I found Getty's pricing guide, and used that to determine my price (1/2 page, one time use for print and web, with added fee if image reused within a 12 month timeframe), which the client accepted ... |
