| ->> Some credit cards will pay for TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry enrollment. American Express covered mine. Go for the Global Entry registration as it's only $15 more and gets you expedited entry into the US as well as TSA Pre-Check. |

| ->> I've heard that the Global Entry/TSA PreCheck integration isn't flawless. Run into any problems with PreCheck at a non-Global Entry airport, Jim? |

->> Your answer is right there on the top of the TSA website!

I've never had an issue with PreCheck at a Non-Global Entry Airport, Michael. Its more often you run into an airport where PreCheck is closed because of staffing issues and/or the airline you are flying does not participate. |

->> Ive just returned from a 2 week assignment in Africa. 8 flights between Louisville and Ghana... not a single issue. I can't believe it, but, I never even opened a bag for inspection. Super smooth operations. Here are a few suggestions.
1. I used ThinkTank bags. Airport Security Roller and Shapeshifter backpack . They allow me pack in a single layer, easily read by an X-ray machine. I also use separate bag for my personal stuff. Camera bags organized and easily inspected (hopefully via Xray).
2. I used TSA-Pre when/where available. My client booked my airfare on South Africa Air. The flight was outstanding, amazing service, but the airline is not part of the TSA-Pre program. But, if you ask at the check-in counter, tell them your situation, i.e. traveling for business with a large amount of gear for inspection, they may allow you to use First Class expedited security. Very helpful...
3. Be nice, each TSA agent is given latitude... use it to your benefit.
4. US Customs and Immigrations has a new App called "Mobile Pass". Very helpful is flying OCONUS. I waited in line less than 2 minutes to clear customs on my return.
5. Have business cards handy to offer as a professional credential of your work. Especially in lesser developed counties.
I think the short answer, is, YES, TSA-PRE is well worth the investment... but not the only factor in smooth travel.

->> That "answer" didn't really address my question of does it work :) In theory there are no problems but I've heard of a few. Glad to hear Jim and Patrick have had no such problems using the Global Entry PreCheck. When My PreCheck comes to renewal time I may go with Global Entry even though I don't fly overseas often.
I have encountered the "PreCheck closed" situation and, in my experience, they give you a little "ticket" that allows you to go through the metal detector without disrobing. You still have to remove your laptop.
But, those situations are outside of "normal" hours so the lines are almost always short to begin with so I'm not too worried about waiting long or removing my laptop. |

| ->> I just renewed my Global Entry (after 5 years) and it did not require another visit for an interview. All done online. Well worth it. |
