->> A friend that uses Canon gear asked me a couple of questions and not having any recent experience with that brand, I thought it might make a good topic here:
- Is the Canon 7D Mark II a good camera for shooting sports?
(Follow up: what AF settings are recommended?)
-The Canon 1DX Mark II has a noticeable hiccup (hesitation) when shooting a continuous burst. Is this an AF settings issue or something else?
(Follow up: what AF settings are recommended for general sports photography?) |

Bearing in mind that I successfully shot sports in high school with a fixed lens, rangefinder Fujica I'd have to say Yes! |

->> The 7D Mk II's AF system is derived from the 1 DX, and the people I know who have it have been very happy. They primarily shoot wildlife rather than sports, so take that with as large a grain of salt as you like. It's also said to have particularly good autofocus performance when paired with the new 100-400.
As far as the hiccup on 1 DX Mk II, it sounds like it could be the camera prioritizing focus over release, and so the pause might be to acquire focus. I shoot Nikon, and there are custom settings that control whether the camera prioritizes focus or taking the picture if you hit the shutter button and there's no subject that the AF has locked on to. |

->> I was issued a 7D-II by the paper and loved the camera for sports Robert.
Unfortunately I had to turn it in when I was laid-off, so I do don't know what I had the auto-focus set at. |

| ->> The 7D MII is great for sports. I have used it all the way to 16,000 ISO and it gives great results. The greatest function with this camera is the Anti-Flicker which is great at high school and city league stadiums. Here is a link to some photos I shot with the 7D the day I got it which was on the release date. The last photo of the guy playing the guitar is shot at 16,000. http://marvingentry.photoshelter.com/index/G0000.mHHJ0HuJhI |
