->> I knew about the 'upgraded' models to be announced but the rumors don't indicate any major changes (slightly faster CPU and, perhaps, 32Gb of RAM available). Retailers are dropping their prices on current stock so I went for it. Besides, if something extraordinary does show up I can return this one and order a new one.
I'm going for the fastest chip (2.9 i7), 16Gb of RAM and a 1 Tb SSD drive. That ought to keep me happy for at least five years.
The wife is happy too as she 'inherits' my mid-2013 MBP 15. |

->> The main "gotcha" that I know of only applies if you completely wipe the machine for a reinstall. The problem arrises mostly in corporate environments and deployment tools.
In a typical SOHO this shouldn't be a problem, but something to keep in the back of your mind if you ever feel like you need to do a full erase. |

| ->> Not that I have any plans for a complete wipe of a new laptop what exactly goes wrong when you do? |

| ->> This is off topic, but where did you buy a late 2016 MBP? |

->> Jim, the touch bar itself is running an Embedded OS on a small little EFI volume. If this gets deleted, the Mac won't boot: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207567
Like I said, it really won't apply to most SO/HO situations, but could bite you later if you ever decide to do a wipe and reinstall instead of an upgrade when a future macOS version comes out. |

->> Thanks Kev, good thing to know.
Stew: I ordered it from B&H, still in stock and $200 off for the one I bought. |

| ->> Well the new (mid-2017) Macbooks are out and the comparable model is $100 less than the old one. Since B&H will not adjust the price on the old one (at UPS for pick-up) I'm refusing the shipment and it's going back. I'll order a mid-2017 when the new ones are available in a couple of weeks. |

| ->> Maybe is we have enough Nikon users complain to Nikon, they will do an update that will make their software usable on the current Mac OS. |

->> Mark,
Have you considered Photo Mechanic rather than Nikon Transfer and Nikon View? Photo Mechanic is blazingly fast for importing images, adding file information like keywords & cutlines, and tagging images to find them quickly later. I can also use it to send images quickly via e-mail or FTP. It has lots of additional features that a professional needs and it's the best $150 I've ever spent.
Photo Mechanic's support is top notch and they continue to make it the industry standard. |

| ->> Stanley, the new MacBook Pros do have a forked build of 10.12.5, but I can't imagine there are enough differences to break any software. I've heard no other reports of problems like that on the new machines. |

| ->> Jonathan, you are right. I am a old dog that hates having to learn new tricks. I have???? an 7 year old version of PM, that I hope will work with the current Mac OS. |
