For many years I designed my own and then in the last five years more and more Content Based Websites became better and better.
I would recommend going with PhotoShelter for this reason.
The downside if a web designer makes it too customized is you often need to go back to them.
You can also customize the templates on PhotoShelter beyond if you still want a custom website.
That is just my 2¢s worth for you. |

www.photobiz.com is who I use for my website. http://www.bremsphotographic.com
They have a ton of templates to choose from and you upload the photos you want and move them around in the order you want them. It's sort of like drag and drop.
$20 a month gets you unlimited space for photos and videos. One thing is if you want a store to sell images from I believe there is an extra cost associated with that.
