| ->> I keep getting notices about getting a free version of Windows 10. Can any of the computer experts here please let me (& others) know if it is suggested to upgrade, or skip this version? (Please no Mac vs Windows posts) |

| ->> I like it quite a bit. If you are on 8/8.1, 10 works much better. 10 is also theoretically the last and final version of windows which will for the forseeable future only get security and other incremental upgrades. So yes, I recommend it highly |

->> Nearly all new PC computers come with Win-10. If you want v8.1 you have to pay for it. I had my wife's laptop upgraded to Win-10 and it's nice, but gets some getting used to. I set it up to emulate the Win8 desktop screen since that is what we're used to. There are some changes that are annoying, but again, it is a matter of getting used to -- like buying a new car from a different car manufacturer or getting a rental car of a type you haven't driven before whereupon you have to take a few minutes to figure out how to turn on the headlights, window wipers, open the trunk, etc.
One of the main complaints about the new OS is its browser, called Microsoft Edge. It is very different. However, you can still use Internet Explorer v11 by installing it for free. Or Chrome, Safari, Mozilla, etc.
As to switching to Win10, the upgrade is free during the first year of the new OS. So come the end of July 2016 you'll have to decide to upgrade for free or pay for the upgrade in August.
Personally, I'm staying with Win8.1 for the a while until Win10 gets settled in with bug fixes, upgrades, etc.
As to my wife's laptop, I haven't found anything that it is not backward compatible with so far. |

->> I upgraded all my PC's to 10.
I also upgraded my mothers computer to 10 who HATES change (at 78 I can understand the dislike in tech changes.)
Once I installed it on her computer, she asked, "what changed?"
Her computer was upgraded from Win 7 to 10.. Which there are some good visual changes, but to not notice them is quite the feat. |
