Do you get a daily newspaper delivered to your home?

->> This is an old "Polls" title from March 2, 2009. Five and a half years ago it was 47.28% Yes and 52.72% No. SO.....I was wondering if these numbers are still the same more than half a decade later. A simple yes or no will suffice, and I will get my solar calculator fired up in a week from today. Hopefully, with just three or two key strokes to key in, we can get a lot of responses.
Me first...Yes |

2 are 7 days a week, the other is 3 days a week.
However with the pending sale of all the Sun-Times suburban papers that might change, depends on how the Chicago Trib handles the new papers. |

->> Yes but not my local paper. My local Gannett branded hard copy has more or less become "USA Today Light" (as the clerk as my coffee shop jokes) both because it went from broadsheet to roughly the size of an ESPN magazine, and also because many stories are now straight from USA Today.
To that effect I actually do subscribe to USA Today, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post.
Each day I also spend about 1-2 hours reading Der Spiegel, The Guardian, Al Jezeera and China Daily. Each publication has different strengths but the one strength they all have is that they cover US news extremely well despite preconceived notions about their biases. Well, the exact same thing can be said about getting your news from a liberally or conservatively slanted news paper, or an agenda biased Network news site like CNN, FOX (puke-in-mouth.... and I'm republican), MSNBC... So if I'm going to get biased/slanted news, why not get an outsider's prospective. |

->> Not any more. We have two papers in SLC and I subscribed to the Tribune for about 16-17 years. Then they started the layoffs and cutting the size of the paper which meant a reduction in content too. Then they raised the cost of subscription where I would be paying more for less. It no longer became worth the money, especially when it and the competing Deseret News both put their content online for free and them some. And what is posted is done BEFORE it comes out in print. So by the time the paper hit by doorstep it was already old news as I already read it online.
My neighbors also feel the same. They get what they want gratis via the papers' websites too. The only time we and they buy a hard copy is the Thanksgiving edition for the Black Friday sales which don't appear online.
We do, however, pay to subscribe to the NY Times and Seattle online editions. |

->> Not daily, as the local paper now only has home delivery on Wednesday, Friday , Saturday and Sunday. We do get online access to the daily paper with our subscription, which is different from the .com site. The online access is the same as the newsstand paper that is still published the days home delivery is not offered. |

->> Nope. Gannett has ruined the paper that I received daily, and delivered, as a kid. We still had Sunday-only delivery up until about a year ago but decided that wasn't worth it either.
This particular paper was amazing when I was younger. Not sure which company/family ran it but I couldn't wait to read the sports section on Sunday morning. It must have been 30 pages -- full of local sports, national, feature articles, stats, etc. All of the sections were like that; it was a fantastic periodical.
But, to be completely honest, I must admit that as a paperboy I hated those Sunday editions -- they weighed a ton! |
