->> Hello everyone. I wanted to point out this wonderful story and video piece by Jane Tyska of the Oakland Tribune about 87-year-old former Tribune staff photographer Robert Stinnett and the famous picture he shot of Cal's Kevin Moen scoring the winning touchdown against Stanford as he runs through Stanford band members during the Big Game at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley, Calif. on Nov. 20, 1982.
This was a crazy game and Saturday's annual event between the two Bay Area rivals mark's the 30th anniversary. Stinnett is a great guy and brilliant businessman who negotiated the copyrightof his famous image away from former Tribune published Robert Maynard. Thanks to Stinnett's brilliance he has been making money off this frame ever since. He is constantly licensing this image for various types of usage, and recently made a sweet deal with DOVE soap for the image to appear in a television commercial with John Elway- who was the Stanford QB in the game.
Please check out the story and watch the video by Jane:

->> What's really crazy about this? I read the story we had in the paper this morning (Saturday) and at the game I covered tonight UNC tried the same play! They had about five seconds to attempt to get a touchdown and started lateraling the ball and throwing passes in an attempt to win the game. It didn't work but I thought it truly odd that the first time I ever see a team do this is on the 30th anniversary of the actual event. Weird. |

->> Whew, finally catching up...Thanks so much for sharing this Brad! It's always a pleasure to spend time with Bob and hear his terrific stories, especially this one. Glad he's getting the recognition and financial rewards he deserves for The Play image. Thanks for the video link Bradly, you can see Bob in the end zone wearing light blue and shooting as Moen runs it in. Appreciate the props Nic! Stinnett is a treasure. |
